Learn to sew classic 5-pocket western jeans in this 6 week evening class. We will be working with the Ginger or Ronsard jeans for womenswear, or the Quadra jeans for menswear. A choice of kits will be available, including cotton denim in a choice of colours with jeans zips, threads and metalwear.

Some cutting out, and certain elements of the make may need to be completed in-between classes, a full video sew-along is provided and all processes are demonstrated and practiced in class.

Time: 7:30pm - 9:30pm

About this course

A six week sewing course suitable for established sewists. Learn how to make a pair of jeans. The paper pattern is included in the class price. Kits and fabrics are available from Flying Bobbins including everything you need, or you can choose to bring your own fabric and notions.

We will be using the Ginger or Ronsard patterns for womenswear, or the Quadra pattern form menswear.

Week 1

  • Measuring and cutting out the paper pattern.
  • Making basic alterations.
  • Homework - Cutting out your fabric.

Week 2

  • Baste fitting

Week 3

  • The front pockets

Week 4

  • The back pockets

Week 5

  • The fly

Week 6

  • The leg seams and hem
  • The waistband

  • 12 hours of sewing tuition divided across 6, 2-hour lessons.

If you are choosing to bring your own fabric and supplies, then thread, interfacing, buttons and other notions can be purchased throughout the course and invoiced at the end.

  • Working with denim
  • Making a front pocket

  • Constructing a zip fly

  • Applying jeans metalwear.
  • Working with denim

Booking Terms

Full payment for the class shall be taken at point of booking to secure your place. Cash payments cannot be accepted for classes.

Minimum Class Size:

The minimum class size for this course is 4 participants.  Should this number not be reached, the class will not be able to run.  Flying Bobbins will strive to find a solution, however, in some cases, classes may have to be cancelled due to low numbers.  You will be kept informed at all times and a full refund will be given for any cancelled courses.

Cancellation Policy:

Should you wish to cancel, please let me know as soon as possible.  Cancellations made less than 3 weeks in advance will be charged at 50%.

Absence:

If you can't make one of the classes, every effort will be made to accommodate you on another class, however this cannot be guaranteed.  No refund will be given for missed classes.

In the unlikely event that the class cannot go ahead due to teacher absence, alternative arrangements will be made and a range of dates will be offered to the class.  A refund for the missed class will be given where no suitable alternative can be arranged.

Illness:

If you feel unwell, please do not attend.  Every effort will be made to find an alternative class so that you can catch up. Video tuition will be provided where available.
