Learn to sew a classic shirt in this 5 week evening class. We will be working with the Jenna Shirt by Closet Core, or the Fairfield Shirt by Thread Theory. Polish your sewing skills during this classic project. A choice of kits will be available, including crisp, premium white cotton poplin, classic blue denim chambray and yarn dyed, laundered stripe shirting as well as a new flannel plaid check.

Week 1: Tuesday 6th January
Break: No Class on 13th January
Week 2: Tuesday 20th January
Week 3: Tuesday 27th January
Week 4: Tuesday 3rd February
Week 5: Tuesday 10th February

Some cutting out, and certain elements of the make may need to be completed in-between classes, a full video sew-along is provided and all processes are demonstrated and practiced in class.

Time: 7:30pm - 9:30pm

About this course

A five week sewing course suitable for established sewists. Learn how to make a classic shirt. The paper pattern is included in the class price. Kits and fabrics are available from Flying Bobbins including everything you need, or you can choose to bring your own fabric and notions.

Project Details

We will be using the Jenna Shirt by Closet Core Patterns or the Fairfield Button-Up Shirt by Thread Theory.

Week 1

Cutting out demonstration. Following week 1, you will have 2 weeks to cut everything out before returning to sew your shirt.

Week 2

Sewing the patch pocket.
Making the placket.
Sewing the yoke.

Week 3

Attaching the front and back shirt.
Sewing the collar.

Week 4

Attaching the sleeves.
Sewing the cuffs.

Week 5

Applying buttons or snaps and button holes.
Hemming your shirt.

If you are choosing to bring your own fabric and supplies, then thread, interfacing, buttons and other notions can be purchased throughout the course and invoiced at the end.

Booking Terms

Full payment for the class shall be taken at point of booking to secure your place. Cash payments cannot be accepted for classes.

Minimum Class Size:

The minimum class size for this course is 4 participants. Should this number not be reached, the class will not be able to run. Flying Bobbins will strive to find a solution, however, in some cases, classes may have to be cancelled due to low numbers. You will be kept informed at all times and a full refund will be given for any cancelled courses.

Cancellation Policy:

Should you wish to cancel, please let me know as soon as possible. Cancellations made less than 3 weeks in advance will be charged at 50%.

Absence:

If you can't make one of the classes, every effort will be made to accommodate you on another class, however this cannot be guaranteed. No refund will be given for missed classes.

In the unlikely event that the class cannot go ahead due to teacher absence, alternative arrangements will be made and a range of dates will be offered to the class. A refund for the missed class will be given where no suitable alternative can be arranged.

Illness:

If you feel unwell, please do not attend. Every effort will be made to find an alternative class so that you can catch up. Video tuition will be provided where available.
